Metasurfaces for Sensing Applications

Health icon, disabled. A red heart with a cardiac rhythm running through it.

Metasurfaces are structures that enable researchers to manipulate electromagnetic waves to achieve advanced sensing applications. This research focuses on developing beamforming methods using a microcontroller such as an Arduino to further improve the capabilities of the metasurface. The applications that the metasurface can conduct are localization, vital signs detection, and fall prevention. Localization is having the metasurface be able to track an individual or a desired object in a room. By integrating algorithms into the metasurface, this research aims to improve the accuracy of the metasurface.
