Method to Measure Intracranial Pressure Wirelessly Using Remote Powering by Ultrasound

Over 14 million people are affected by increased intracranial pressure (ICP), caused by traumatic brain injury or diseases like hydrocephalus, which leads to excess cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Current ICP measurement techniques often lack accuracy, risking patient lives. This research aims to develop and test a remote impedance measurement system (RIMS) using wireless power transfer between an external ultrasound emitter and an implanted piezoelectric receiver. Bioimpedance data from RIMS will be validated with a controlled conductivity solution. The system measures cerebral bioimpedance in real time and correlates it with ICP changes, offering an innovative solution for ICP monitoring.
