Research for development of A Self-Fluctuating Actuator Air Prosthetic Liner with Memory Foam Design for Lower Limb Amputees to Improve Comfort, Stability, and Fluctuation in Prosthetic Sockets:
The research question that is being proposed is whether an air-based device can address volume fluctuation inside a prosthetic socket for lower limb amputees. The main objective will be to find a solution that can improve comfort and reduce volume fluctuation. Amputees continue to face problems of discomfort due to fluctuation of the residual limb inside the prosthetic socket or liner, caused by limb weight fluctuations. These fluctuations can cause an amputee detrimental harm to the skin or even deadly infections. The proposed research aims at innovating a device that could replace socket fillers to significantly reduce the constant fluctuation of volume inside prosthetic sockets.
