Associate Professor, School for Engineering of Matter, Transport and Energy
Ryan Milcarek, PhD, CEM, is an associate professor in the School for Engineering of Matter, Transport and Energy (SEMTE) at Arizona State University (ASU). He obtained his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at Syracuse University. He also obtained an M.S. degree in energy systems engineering, certificate of advanced study in sustainable enterprise and certificate in university teaching during his graduate studies.
His research focuses on energy management and efficiency, energy system modeling, energy transition, energy storage, solid oxide fuel cells fabrication and testing, partial oxidation and synthesis of hydrogen. He also conducts engineering education research in peer-led study groups, a form of cooperative learning. Milcarek gained his passion for energy research during his undergraduate studies while conducting energy assessments of industrial facilities. He has completed over 50 commercial and industrial energy assessments, exploring opportunities to improve energy management and reduce the energy costs associated with these buildings. His teams of students and faculty identify over $50k of implemented energy savings per facility on average.
