Accurate Timing Reference Using GPS Signal and Arduino
As the backbone of many critical infrastructure systems, assured Position, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) is crucial to maintaining our national security. In the battlefield environment, the availability of devices that provide an accurate, synchronized timing reference is essential for unified execution of the mission. Research is being done to integrate a Global Positioning System (GPS) module with an Arduino microcontroller, and use the information encoded in signals from GPS satellites to ensure precise timekeeping on a portable, low-power platform. Such a device would be implemented in the Internet of Battlefield Things (IOBT) and be powered by sources such as batteries or low-power solar cells.
