Carbonization of XLPE into Graphene using Flash Joule method of Heating
This research explores carbonization via electromagnetic induction heating (400–700°C) to sustainably recycle cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) from discarded power cables, diverting 300 tons/year from landfills. By breaking C-C/C-H bonds under vacuum, XLPE is converted into activated carbon for water/air purification and graphene. Induction heating enables efficient, scalable waste conversion, overcoming traditional pyrolysis limitations. Material analysis confirms carbon quality and cross-link density. This method reduces landfill dependence, lowers emissions, and advances circular economies, addressing global waste projected to reach 3.8 billion tons by 2050. The process transforms non-recyclable thermoset plastics into reusable materials, supporting sustainable industrial practices and climate resilience.
