Enhancing Accuracy in Accessible Motion Capture Technology

Accurate biomechanics data can dramatically improve healthcare and human movement research. However, access to this technology is restrictive, costing hundreds of thousands of dollars and requiring significant time to use on patients. This project seeks to improve the accuracy of existing accessible technology — the OpenCap biomechanics platform — by analyzing error patterns between OpenCap and industry-standard motion capture systems in simultaneous capture trials. Using this strategy, the research team is developing a machine learning-based post-processing algorithm to correct data returned from OpenCap. This method could provide an accessible, accurate method for biomechanics capture, leading to further breakthroughs in health and human movement.
