Integrated LED for Peripheral Illumination of Fiber Optics

This project aims to improve the efficiency and user-friendliness of the lab’s automated fluorescence-guided patch clamp electrophysiology system as well as reduce noise while recording data. While previous research exists, most attempts neglect to target noise at its source, opting instead to examine post-hoc signal processing. This approach utilizes specific hardware alterations to improve signal acquisition performance and reduce acquisition times. This project expands the patch-clamping system, enhances optomechanical capabilities, and facilitates effective study of relevant cellular subtypes implicated in neurological disorders. The project outcomes will inform early optical prototyping, which may have numerous implications for early-stage research in biomedical optics.
