Arteriovenous Malformations

Arteriovenous Malformations (AVM) are tangles of blood vessels connecting arteries and veins in the brain, that disrupt blood flow and can cause irreversible brain damage. Treating AVMs is currently flawed, in that embolization occurs while the AVM is being supplied with blood, no effective plug is formed, and embolization is not complete. By designing an AVM Anti-Reflux Plug Promoting Microcatheter with proximal side holes, it will cut blood supply to the AVM before embolization by forming a plug. This static environment is created by proximal side holes at the tip of the microcatheter and will allow for safe delivery of the embolic agent.
