Convection-Based Calibration Procedure for Thermal Manikin Heat Flux Sensors in Extreme Heat Conditions

The ANDI thermal manikin is an advanced thermal instrument equipped with an internal cooling system and shell-integrated Dynamic Heat Flux Sensors used to analyze the human body’s thermal exposure responses under varying environmental conditions. This research initiative focuses on developing a convection-based calibration procedure for ANDI’s Dynamic Heat Flux Sensors which currently has not been produced for extreme heat experiments. It’s imperative that a calibration method is instilled and repeated periodically to ensure that ANDI can effectively quantify thermal stress under fluctuating thermal conditions. As extreme heat events continue to affect regions around the world, it’s imperative to advance research in human thermal comfort to minimize heat-related fatalities. With this insight, engineering systems can be refined to reduce heat-related deaths and improve human adaptation to extreme heat events.
