Investigating the Impact of Higher Education Faculty’s Mental Health on Student Outcomes

The mental health of higher-education faculty is widely ignored in research. K-12 studies report high rates of mental health conditions and the negative impact this has on student outcomes (Parrish, 2022). The objective of this project is to quantify rates of mental health issues in this population and the resulting impact on pedagogical outcomes. A psychometric analysis tool was developed to quantify rates of depression, anxiety, PTSD, and pedagogical attitudes and outcomes across several dozen participants. This study hypothesizes that professors who screen positive will report worse student outcomes and lower levels of occupational satisfaction than professors who screen negative.
