Analysis of Energy Transition from Fossil Fuels to Renewable Energy for the Central U.S. Region

This study aims to analyze the feasibility of switching from fossil fuels (oil, coal, and natural gas) to solar PV in 2 balancing authorities in the central U.S. (SWPP and ERCO). These authorities service states from Texas to North Dakota, and generate a majority of electricity through non-renewable sources. The non-renewable energy production is compiled from the Energy Information Administration, and global horizontal irradiance data is used to evaluate solar PV and energy storage capacity and dispatch needed to replace fossil fuels.
