Optimizing Polymeric Nanoparticle Fabrication Using a Design of Experiments Approach to Enhance Physicochemical Properties

Nanoparticles (NPs) are small particles classified as less than 1000 nm in size and have seen a rise in use in the field of drug delivery. Recent findings indicate that NPs less than 100 nm can effectively treat the outcomes of traumatic brain injuries (TBI) by diffusing through the blood-brain barrier, along with encapsulating an anti-inflammatory drug as a therapeutic. To optimize their formulation, a design of experiments approach will help better understand the most pertinent parameters for effective treatment. Knowing this vital information can greatly aid in the treatment of the acute and chronic effects of TBI.
