Utilizing Software Defined Radio (SDR) to Implement a Cellular System Signal Decoder

Data icon, disabled. Four grey bars arranged like a vertical bar chart.

The objective of this research project is to use a software defined radio (SDR) to implement a wireless communication receiver to decode cellular communications. We use existing open source fourth generation (4G) cellular receiver architecture found in the literature to understand the characteristics of 4G communications. We then identify the similarities with 5G communications in an attempt to build a similar 5G receiver. 5G signals are more complex so our future work is to develop an understanding of the 5G receiver and build its block diagram using GNU Radio.
