Radiation Induced Polymerization of an Acrylate-Based Compound
Radiation toxicity is a significant problem that affects the livelihood of people. On the macroscale, nuclear spillage and contamination in areas of habitat can lead to diseases and birth defects in unborn children. On the microscale, inaccuracy in the administration of radiation therapy leads to unintended damage to healthy body tissue. The objective of this research is to create an Acrylate-Based Gel that is able to polymerize upon radiation exposure. The development of this technology can lead to the production of an advanced warning method in areas with potential nuclear contamination and result in more protective ways to administer radiation.
