Establishing Cryptographically Secure Communication Channels Between Batteryless and Battery-powered IoT Devices

Batteryless IoT devices eliminate the need for batteries through energy harvesting and enable sensing and monitoring in physically inaccessible or challenging environments. Currently, many IoT environments consist of traditional battery-powered devices, yet there is no established method of enabling secure communication between batteryless and battery-powered IoT devices. This means it is possible for an adversary to monitor or manipulate the sensitive data communicated between these devices, causing harmful and unintended consequences. To address this issue, the researchers leverage the shared context between devices in IoT environments to establish cryptographic keys between batteryless and battery-powered IoT devices without human involvement.
