Energy Absorption in Aperiodic Cellular Materials

Sustainability icon, disabled. A green leaf.

Aperiodic cellular materials are an instance of a patterned cellular material in which randomness is introduced into the geometry generation. This change in cellular design can be used to distribute forces in the structure to modify its mechanical properties. Of specific interest in this work, the material can be designed to optimize energy absorption per unit mass beyond the capabilities of traditional cellular materials.
