Analyzing Single-Drop Granule Formation and Strength

Sustainability icon, disabled. A green leaf.

This study aims to analyze how liquid binders of varying viscosities affect the formulation and strength of granules. The formation of single-drop granules can be observed with a high-speed camera on the flat surface of a powder bed, where the penetration time of the liquid drop into the bed characterizes its formation. Additionally, the formed granule is subjected to a high-shear granulator mixer at varying revolutions per minute to gain an insight into its strength. This knowledge of properties can be applied to improve efficiency in pharmaceutical manufacturing, the food industry, mineral processing, and many more areas.
