An Integrative Personalized Wearable Indirect Calorimeter
A personal indirect calorimeter allows everyone to assess energy expenditure (metabolic rate or metabolism (kcal/day)) through breath analysis, thus enabling accurate determination of a person’s total caloric intake needs for weight management and fitness. In addition, ketones are markers of fat oxidation, and can also be measured through breath. The aim of this project is to:
- Use an FDA-cleared wearable metabolic rate analyzer based on indirect calorimetry (Breezing Med) and validate it with a gold standard method (Douglas bag method) and a reference method (metabolic cart, Medical Graphics).
- Adapt the wearable metabolic rate analyzer (Breezing Med) to additionally measure breath ketone levels.
