Metal-Organic Frameworks for Hydrogen Storage in Fuel Cell Cars
Hydrogen (H2) fuel-cell cars can greatly reduce carbon emissions that are produced by fossil fuels and automobiles. Future energy strategies must include the use of hydrogen as a carrier for energy. However, issues with hydrogen storage limit its use as an energy carrier in vehicles and portable electronics. A great scientific and growing societal challenge that hydrogen storage brings is an urgent need to store and use them as fuels cost-effectively and safely. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), a type of multifunctional material, are ideal for energy and environmental applications because they can be produced in large quantities with high thermal stability using inexpensive starting materials and a variety of preparation techniques.
This research aims at evaluating the possibility of H2 storage in metal-organic frameworks for fuel cell cars because it is the most sustainable development of the future automotive industry. Pollution of the environment because of the excessive utilization of fossil fuels and the release or leakage of toxic gasses. These harmful gasses pose a significant threat to human health and the environment.
