A Switched Resistor Array for Pulsed Power Load Emulation

Energy icon, disabled. An orange lightning bolt.

Pulsed power converters drive loads in a wide range of pulse specifications, and emulating these pulses is necessary for the test and validation of these converters. This work proposes a switched resistor array employing GaN switches to emulate pulses with the following specifications: 10kHz-200kHz pulse frequency, 1%-30% duty cycle, 18V-36V bus voltage and 4kW peak power. This work presents experimental results on a scaled-down version of the proposed topology to verify design models. Verifying design models on the bench allows for the accurate design and scaling of high-performance load steppers.
