A Novel Method in Processing LiPON for Lithium Ion Battery

Energy icon, disabled. An orange lightning bolt.

This research explores potential methods to synthesize lithium phosphorous oxynitride (LiPON) in three solution-based approaches: spin coating, doctor blade coating, and spray coating. With the challenge being nitrogen incorporation, precursor inks with nitrogen-containing compounds, nonthermal nitrogen plasma are also explored. Ionic conductivity measurement and x-ray diffraction are conducted to compare with current approaches. This sheds light on previously less-explored solution-based approaches, provided an example of liquid-plasma interface, and points to directions for future LiPON research, where other nitrogen-containing compounds can be investigated as precursors. This research highlights the sustainable solution of lithium batteries with a high-performance, solid-state electrolyte.
