Enhancing Interdisciplinary Thinking in Co-Curricular Programs

Education icon, disabled. A purple mortarboard.

The research team investigated the methods and outcomes related to interdisciplinary thinking in the Grand Challenge Scholars Program and Next Generation Service Corps, which are co-curricular programs within Arizona State University. While both programs aim to create interdisciplinary leaders, the researchers found commonalities and differences in how each program instilled interdisciplinary thinking in their students. Leaders for these and other programs may utilize this information to identify strategies for teaching similar skills in the future. Future work may examine other commonalities, especially for engineering students in one or both programs to ascertain co-curricular program outcomes in engineering education.
