Optimizing and Evaluating Real-time Illumination Estimation for Mixed Reality
To convincingly render virtual objects in a physical environment, real-time environmental lighting systems must be efficient enough to run on mobile platforms without sacrificing visual fidelity. Due to limitations on processing power and battery life previous works have offloaded processing via cloud computing. This introduces undesired latency for a real-time system. The purpose of this research is to create a distributed solution that relies on multiple systems to collaborate on the processing. Further optimizations may include specified hardware for real-time rendering on mobile systems.
