Hyperspectral Detection of Heavy Metals in Spinach: Using Hyperspectral Imaging to Assess Cadmium Uptake in Spinach Grown in Contaminated Soils

This research investigates whether hyperspectral imaging (HSI) can be used to detect cadmium (Cd) accumulation in spinach (spinacia oleracea) grown in contaminated soils. By correlating spectral features from hyperspectral data with laboratory-measured Cd concentrations, the study aims to develop a non-destructive, rapid screening method for heavy metal contamination in produce. This approach could improve food safety, reduce public health risks, and inform sustainable agricultural practices. Future work will focus on expanding the method to other crop species and integrating HSI with real-time agricultural monitoring systems.
