Identification of Critical Habitat for Western Yellow-billed Cuckoos Through an Operations Research Modeling Approach
The Yellow-billed Cuckoo is a riparian obligate species in Western North America, meaning that its survival is tied to the health of riparian ecosystems. Degradation of suitable habitat due to human activity has caused significant decline in the population of the Yellow-billed Cuckoo. This has led to the population being listed as “threatened” under the Endangered Species Act. This research aims to use an operations research approach to develop optimization models that identify the best habitat to preserve for the protection of Yellow-billed Cuckoos.
