Ultrafast High-Temperature Sintering System

Ceramic materials used for fast ion transport require high-temperature sintering to achieve full densification; however, current methods are time intensive and often result in excessive grain growth and the loss of volatile elements. This study investigates Ultrafast High-Temperature Sintering (UHS) as an alternative approach to rapidly densify ceramic pellets. By utilizing heating rates exceeding 10,000 °C/min and sintering times on the order of seconds, this process can minimize grain growth and compositional loss. The ability to rapidly sinter ceramic materials enables faster iteration in materials development, accelerating research in solid-state ionic conductors and supporting the advancement of energy storage and conversion technologies.
