Optimization and Mechanical Performance of 3D-Printed Auxetic Structures: Effects of Geometry, Material, and Printing Parameters

Auxetic structures, known for their negative Poisson’s ratio, exhibit superior energy absorption, making them promising for protective applications. Their unique geometries align well with additive manufacturing, yet the impact of fabrication parameters on their mechanical behavior remains underexplored. This study investigates the mechanical performance of 3D-printed auxetic structures — Reentrant Honeycomb (REE), Arc Wall Unit Cells (AWUC), and their mass-optimized variants — across three polymeric materials. By examining the interplay of geometry, materials, and printing parameters, this research aims to provide insights into optimizing auxetic structures for enhanced mechanical efficiency in energy absorption applications.
