Energy-efficient Electroadhesive Clutch for Variable Stiffness Back Support Devices

This research investigates the manufacture and control of an electroadhesive clutch integrated into a back support system to enhance mechanical assistance while reducing power consumption. The study involves a comprehensive review of existing clutch techniques, followed by the circuit and structural design using high-voltage dielectric materials, and finally a conduction of an experiment to validate the force and energy expectation. The system aims to optimize engagement and disengagement dynamics with minimal power input, providing a sustainable alternative to traditional clutching mechanisms. This research will contribute to the advancement of variable stiffness healthcare devices by offering an energy-efficient and responsive clutch system.
