3D-Printed Auxetic Metamaterial-Integrated FBG Sensor: a Wearable Health Monitoring Approach

Wearable health sensors often struggle with flexibility and inefficient strain transfer, leading to reduced sensitivity. This research introduces 3D-printed TPU-based auxetic metamaterial integrated with a Fiber Bragg Grating sensor to enhance pulse detection. This metamaterial sensor is characterized by a negative Poisson’s ratio, facilitates superior strain amplification, and improves sensing performance. Structural analysis was conducted to evaluate Poisson’s ratio variations resulting from geometric modifications, optimizing lateral expansion and strain transfer for enhanced sensor accuracy.
