Risk Analysis and Efficiency Evaluation of Varying Terminal Connectors Use in Photovoltaic Systems
This research outlines the benefits, drawbacks, and risks of using different battery terminal connecters in photovoltaic systems; in relation to the Shonto Solar project. Based on initials findings from an FMEA analysis of residential PV systems, it can be concluded that electrical connecters pose the highest risk of failure. Identifying preventative measures against failure modes, in this case, resiliency to temperature fluctuations provides insight for the production of more robust and efficient units. Future work includes constructing a small scale model to be tested under mimicked weather conditions found in Shonto, Arizona to determine the risk-to-benefit ratio of differing designs.
