Lithium-Ion Battery Degradation and State of Health Evaluation for Second-Life Applications

Demand and use of Lithium-Ion batteries have increased over time due to their application in electric vehicles and other clean energy technologies. Given the widespread use of Lithium-Ion batteries, enhancing their reusability and exploring second-life applications has become a major focus. In this research, Open Circuit Voltage (OCV) testing is performed on two different cathodes for commonly manufactured lithium-ion batteries: Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) and Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) to first validate the relationship between OCV and State of Charge (SOC). The research project focuses on utilizing Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) to assess battery State of Health (SOH) to determine battery reusability.
