Understanding the dissolution of LDHs to optimize application in wastewater treatment
Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) have frequently been discussed in scientific literature as promising ion-exchange materials for wastewater remediation, with a key drawback being their low recyclability and instability. This research aims to address this flaw by investigating the parameters of LDH dissolution, including the pH and ion concentration of the solution in which they are used, to provide a better mechanistic understanding of the driving forces for dissolution. These mechanistic insights will allow for a targeted approach in the development of LDH applications with conditions suitable for its sustainable use and synthesis.
