Contactless 3D Printing of Artificial Cells in Air for Biomedical Applications

Artificial cells mimic biological systems where biological materials are encapsulated by a thin membrane. Artificial cells are difficult to manufacture because of the complexity of intracellular compartments. This project studies the use of acoustic levitation to print single-core or multi-core artificial cells. Acoustic levitation is a contactless printing method, which provides new opportunities for manufacturing intracellular components of artificial cells by suspending tiny droplets.
