Eco-friendly Dust Mitigation with Bio-polymer from Pine Resin in Mining and Construction Projects

This study investigates the use of a bio-polymer, sourced from pine resin, as an eco-friendly alternative for dust suppression in mining and construction. Unlike traditional methods that depend on extensive water use or chemical treatments, which raise concerns about sustainability and environmental impact, this research introduces a novel method leveraging the inherent adhesive and water-repellent characteristics of a bio-polymer extracted from pine resin. This bio-polymer binds soil particles together, creating a stable crust on exposed surfaces. The objective is to formulate an optimal mixture for surface treatment across various soil types using this bio-polymer, assessing its efficacy through mechanical strength and erosion resistance tests. We anticipate this approach will lead to improved environmental health and promote sustainable practices in dust control.
