Chemically Recyclable Crosslinked Polydiene Elastomers Based on Thiol-Disulfide Exchange Reactions

Crosslinked polydiene elastomers are a class of synthetic rubbers that are widely used in numerous fields because they offer a broad range of chemical and physical properties that are tunable based on varying building blocks and crosslink density. Conventional polydiene elastomers are permanently crosslinked and cannot be reprocessed or reused after the product’s lifetime. The development of elastomeric polydiene networks with dynamic disulfide bonds was evaluated for degradation study and potential recyclability of the network via thiol-disulfide exchange that would tackle the challenges of traditional crosslinked polydiene elastomers.
