Wireless ECoG (Electrocorticography) for Intra-operative Neurophysiological Monitoring

Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) is the most common central nervous system tumor with short life expectancy and only a limited number of patients survive more than three years following diagnosis. During tumor removal, intra-operative electrocorticography (ECoG) which monitors the function of at-risk neurological structures aids clinicians to localize eloquent cortical and subcortical fibers. Currently, brain plasticity significantly compromises the accuracy of the tumor resection resulting in the displacement of eloquent areas and the tumor. To improve the functionality of the ECoG array this research is exploring custom-made electrodes with the integration of wireless data transmission.
