Waste Plastic-based and Biomimetic Multifunctional Coatings

Sustainability icon, disabled. A green leaf.

The objective of this proposed project is to design and manufacture multifunctional coatings using waste plastics by introducing micro or nano elements in polymer matrices and manipulating their configurations as those in biosurfaces. This concept would greatly increase the reuse and recycling of low-recyclable waste plastics such as LDPE, PP, PS and PC, as well as others, as these polymer matrices would be used as the coating substrates. These products would in turn be used in generating multifunctional coatings that have wide applications in transportation tools, energy, infrastructure and other fields.
