Understanding the Effects of Gait Adaptation from the Combination of Visual and Split-Belt Distortion

Health icon, disabled. A red heart with a cardiac rhythm running through it.
Split-belt distortion increases the effectiveness of traditional treadmill rehabilitation through targeted rehabilitation of their paretic leg. Visual distortion is another method that has been used in previous studies to greatly impact the effectiveness of gait rehabilitation through visual modulation. Kim et. al. 2012 published a similar study on the use of visual distortion, that caused all subjects to modulate their gait symmetry. Both split-belt distortion and visual distortion have been tested in the lab and the effects of combining the two stimuli are being evaluated.
