Tuning the Composition of Perovskite Semiconductor Materials for Building-Integrated Photovoltaics
Perovskites (PVK) are novel semiconducting materials that can be engineered to develop semitransparent semiconductors for use in solar window applications. This work revolves around modifying the cation and anion composition in methylammonium lead iodide (MAPI3) PVK to increase the transparency and stability of the material. Introducing bromine, a smaller anion increases transparency but has adverse effects on crystallization. In addition, larger cations, namely butylammonium, inhibit degradation due to moisture. Future work should consider improving the scalability of fabricating this material. Developing robust semitransparent solar materials shifts reliance away from nonrenewable sources, ultimately driving the world toward 100% renewable energy production.
