Photooxidation of Ethanol to Carbon Dioxide through TiO2 coated cement

Sustainability icon, disabled. A green leaf.

The project will increase the understanding of carbon-compound photooxidation through TiO2 on cementitious material. The application of TiO2 coatings will be an important step to reducing air pollutants caused by modes of transportation, however there is much that is unknown about the by-products produced during the oxidation process. It is very likely that ketones and aldehydes will be formed as intermediates in the reaction. These compounds can pose dangers since they are potential carcinogens. Future work would include the testing of different carbon compounds to verify that they have similar by-product distributions and testing beyond a lab scale.
