Optimizing Biocompatible Implant Coatings Using Contact Angle Analysis of Calcium Nitrate Tetrahydrate/TEOS Sol-Gel Systems

Orthopedic implant failure often results from poor osseointegration at the implant surface, making reliable biocompatible coatings critical to improving longevity and reducing revision surgeries. This project investigates the gelation behavior of calcium nitrate tetrahydrate and tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) sol-gel systems via contact angle measurements as a process optimization tool. By characterizing surface wettability at varying concentrations and gelation stages, this study identifies the optimal gelation window for dip-coating implant surfaces.  Establishing contact angle as a reliable indicator of coating readiness will provide a reproducible method for optimizing sol-gel coatings, contributing to improved implant integration and patient quality of life.
