Identification of Freshwater Organisms Using Microwaves

Health icon, disabled. A red heart with a cardiac rhythm running through it.

Previous studies have shown that various pathogens and small organisms have a resonant frequency where they absorb more power than at other frequencies. This project seeks to develop tools to determine the effectiveness of using these resonant frequencies to identify specific freshwater organisms. This approach is reminiscent of the identification of specific molecules by the observation of their absorption lines at optical frequencies. Future research may apply the results of this project to pathogens or other smaller organisms.
