High Cycle Fatigue Behavior of Additively Manufactured Thin Wall Inconel 718
The research team is examining the High Cycle Fatigue (HCF) behavior of thin wall Inconel 718 samples created with additive manufacturing. This is accomplished through the constant-force cyclic testing of printed dog-bone samples. Seven different sample thicknesses (0.3, 0.35, 0.5, 0.75, 1, 1.5, and 2 mm) and two different post-processing thermal treatments are being considered. The current focus of the researcher is to complete the S-N curves for each thickness under each of the thermal conditions. These S-N curves graph the relationship between the stress amplitude and the number of completed cycles and enable designers to predict fatigue life of components.
