Evaluation of Touchless Navigation for Health Records Via Hand Gesture Recognition with and without Eye Tracking

In medical environments, preventing the spread of viral and bacterial contamination is crucial. After disinfecting their hands for a procedure or examination, medical providers face a challenge when reviewing a patient’s electronic medical records (EMR), as interacting with a device (e.g., a mouse, keyboard, or touchscreen) requires them to disinfect their hands again. This research explores a touchless EMR navigation method that integrates hand and eye tracking, allowing providers to access patient records at any point during a procedure or examination without the need for repeated hand disinfection.
