Development of Multi-Sensor Intelligent Embedded System to Assist the Blind with Mobility & Environmental Awareness

Health icon, disabled. A red heart with a cardiac rhythm running through it.

The primary objective of this research is to build a low-cost multi-sensor embedded system that uses readily available components and that is sufficiently flexible to permit the development and demonstration of a wide range of empowering algorithms. Algorithms to be considered could include obstacle detection and avoidance, environment mapping, thermal imaging, navigation, path planning, person and facial recognition, tracking, etc. This will allow the researcher to achieve the main goal of this device, which is to assist a visually impaired individual with mobility and environmental awareness.
