Developing Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion (EB-PBF) Parameters for Copper in Biomedical and Aerospace Applications

Health icon, disabled. A red heart with a cardiac rhythm running through it.

The purpose of this study is to identify optimal parameters for the electron beam powder bed fusion (EB-PBF) of copper through a literature review of current processes, analyzing trends of those processes to develop a functional understanding of how altering each parameter affects the final product, and ultimately testing those optimal parameters by manufacturing test copper parts. The results of the experiment will reveal effects parameters have on the final production of the copper, demonstrating whether the manipulation of parameters could enable EB-PBF to produce copper parts at a quality level satisfactory to its applications in the aerospace and biomedical industries.
