Designing Water-Stable Halide Perovskites for Underwater Photovoltaic Solar Cells

Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) utilize a crystalline ABX3 compound layer to absorb light, offering significant potential for sustainable solar energy. Perovskite’s (PV) tunability allows the adjustment of its electronic properties, enhancing its photoluminescence at different water depths ideal for underwater PV applications. However, their instability in water and air limits their effectiveness. Enhancing the encapsulation layer to protect the perovskite is therefore necessary. This study evaluates various polymer-based encapsulants on the PSC layer using a pressure cooker to simulate underwater environments and uses optoelectronic measurements to assess their stability.
