Damage Modes of Carbon Nanotubes Embedded in Epoxy-Resin polymeric Material

Energy icon, disabled. An orange lightning bolt.

Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs) have extraordinary mechanical, electrical, optical and thermal properties closely related to their shape and deformation, creating a wide potential of applications. However, enough investigation has not been done to study multi-modal deformation of individual CNT suspended in polymeric material. The research team is devoted to studying present literature, while also preparing polymer composite specimens with CNTs. These specimens will be studied to track the geometry of CNTs and characterize CNT-polymer interphase. Further, a representative volume element will be created in finite element-based software to model an embedded CNT and study its multi-modal damage modes.
