Cross Contamination Prevention on Mars Rovers

Security icon, disabled. A blue padlock, locked.

Mars rovers have been launched to perform experiments on Mar which are focused on preventing contaminants from interfering with the study of the planet. This research will be specifically looking at the sampling process to create a system for the rover to sample at different locations while preventing contaminants from the different locations and from systems within the rover that could lead to misinformation. This research contributes to increasing biosecurity as scientists work with unknown materials from Mars so that no biohazards are released as Mars is investigated. In the future, sampling systems can be further updated to include mechanisms for cleaning potential contamination.
